PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES

I currently provide individual psychotherapy to those ages 18 and over. I recognize the profound impact that sociopolitical factors can have on an individual’s health and wellbeing, and believe that therapy cannot be healing if it does not transparently and conspicuously address these. My approach is consent-based and client-centered, and guided by values of justice, liberation, and community. I take care to utilize trauma-informed and anti-oppressive frameworks in my healing work. My style of therapy practice is heavily influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Relational-Cultural Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.

I humbly collaborate with you every step of the way; from the beginning when we work to identify and formulate your desired treatment goals, to mapping out our plan for treatment, to exploring, learning, and taking action on new concepts, to deciding when you’re ready to end. An important part of my work is helping you identify how your experiences have been shaped by your social environment, and supporting you in illuminating how this may have facilitated or inhibited your successes in your life so far in order to help you reconstruct and embody new, empowering narratives about who you are and how you move toward what matters most.

While I do believe in the healing power of being heard and witnessed, I also believe that healing includes more than just attending weekly therapy. I believe that clients must consistently try and implement new behaviors and activities, form new relationships and create new ways of relating and interacting, and intentionally work to shift their worldview.

It is my privilege to be able to work with those from Black, Indigenous, Latine, Asian, bi/multiracial communities, and those with marginalized genders, and I feel my offerings are especially suited for folks from these communities.

I understand that reaching out can be scary! I honor your courage, and I’m committed to helping you feel safe, comfortable, heard, witnessed, and empowered on your path of healing. No question is too small or too obvious, so I encourage you to ask whatever you may need to feel comfortable in making the care decision that is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I currently am in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield. If you have an insurance plan that has out of network benefits, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider.

  • Insurance plans vary. I will do my best to verify the benefits of your specific plan and let you know of any associated costs, but I also ask that you check with your plan as well so we are both on the same page. Without insurance, sessions are $200 for a 60 minute initial intake, and then $170 for 50 minute sessions thereafter. Learn about your right to receive a Good Faith Estimate.

  • I have a limited amount of spots to which I can offer a reduced fee. If you cannot pay the full cost of services, please ask about a reduced fee! I don’t have a set sliding fee scale; instead I discuss with you what you are able to pay, and then I will determine if I am able to accommodate it. If you have the financial means to pay the full fee, I ask that you do so and reserve these spots for those with greater financial need.

I will never ask for any type of income verification from any client who needs to access a lower fee.

  • Either! I offer in-person appointments on Thursdays in the Lansing, MI area. I offer virtual appointments on Monday and Tuesday, and all virtual sessions are conducted over a HIPAA-secure video platform.

Although sessions are conducted remotely, due to licensing restrictions, you must be located in the state of Michigan at the time of your appointment.

  • After you reach out using the contact form, we will first correspond about the logistics of therapy appointments, including your availability and payment method. If I have a time open in my schedule that works with your availability, I will get us set up with our first appointment, which is the intake appointment. Prior to this appointment, you receive an electronic packet of forms to complete.

In our first appointment, my goal is to learn more about what you are experiencing and give you information about how I believe I will be able to support you, including offering information about my style of therapy. While I do believe my therapy offerings can help many, sometimes I am not the right fit for a specific client’s concerns. At the end of this appointment, we will decide whether or not to schedule future appointments. In this initial appointment, I encourage you to ask any questions you may have that will help you to decide whether it feels like a good fit.

If we choose to continue on, we will meet every week or every other week. Sessions last around 50-55 minutes. We will discuss what your desired goals for therapy are, and together we will make a mutually-agreed upon plan that supports you in reaching those goals.

Sessions are guided by you! You decide what we address, but if you are unsure, I am always willing to give recommendations on what I think might be helpful to cover. I may actively listen, ask questions, explore your viewpoints, perceptions, and/or processes, provide insight or interpretation, offer another perspective, facilitate a therapeutic exercise or activity, provide education, etc. I may check in periodically to make sure you still feel that therapy is helping to move you toward your goals.

With some exception (we will go over this in our first appointment), everything that you say to me is kept totally confidential.

  • There is no one length of treatment that is right for everyone. Some clients feel that short term (12 or fewer sessions) are right for them, while some may have concerns that benefit from a longer-term treatment. After conducting the intake appointment, I am happy to provide my opinion on what I think might be the most supportive option for you.

  • To put it simply, you probably won’t until we’ve had a few sessions with each other. This will allow you to experience how sessions flow, my therapeutic style, and how I enact my values throughout my work. After a few sessions, you may then be able to identify better if you feel it that it is a good fit for you, and I’m always happy to explore this further with you or answer any questions you may have about this.

If you want to have at least some idea of “on paper” fit before you commit to reaching out or scheduling, I’ve found that there are certain factors that may make us a poor fit from the start. These include:

    1) Presenting concerns: while I have a wide range of experience with several different areas of focus, I may not feel able to responsibly and/or effectively address all concerns. Especially since my practice is a solo practice run only by me with no other assisting staff, I may also not be equipped with the resources, energy or time that specific clients may find that they want. Concerns that I am not able to work with (not an exhaustive list): substance use, eating disorders where food restriction is taking place, active psychosis, suicidality with intention to act.

    2) Availability: currently I only see clients on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, mostly daytime hours with very limited evening availability. I do not offer any services on weekends. I also prefer to maintain a regular schedule where clients have recurring appointment times. I do not offer variable or flexible scheduling for new clients.

    3) Level of care: I see clients at most weekly, and am not able to offer support to emergent concerns or crises that occur outside of our session time. Additionally, I do not work with any other therapists that can provide interim care if I am away or unable to provide sessions.
